Maine Media Workshops July 8-14June 15th, 2010The Contemporary Landscape Exploring the unfamiliar and unexpected in the landscapeThe landscape is an enduring subject for artists of all media who want to express the spiritual connection between human beings and their environment. For nearly two centuries photography has provided the world with compelling landscape imagery. This workshop focuses on aspects of contemporary landscape photography including the classial, the romantic, the man-made, the cultural, and the unfamiliar. It is a class for fine art photographers, professional photographers and experienced amateurs working in color, who want to develop a personal approach to landscape photography. Lectures, class discussions and critiques encourage and challenge students to move beyond the predictable image and clichéd notions of beauty. During field trips, students explore Midcoast Maine and the surrounding inland towns. Keith also covers career and professional issues such as portfolios, promotion and presentation.\
VSW Extended Image and Frame WorkshopMay 27th, 20102010 Visual Studies Workshop Summer Institute The Extended Image and Frame Sometimes the single photograph does not aptly describe the idea; sometimes the idea is about the form of the presentation. Over the course of five days we will examine what extended picture making is, how to make use of the properties of the medium and create extended frames. Whether these are installations, books, topologies, or extended images, the investigation into the real or personal image will be about picture making. There will be critiques, lectures, field trips, and lots of photographing, journal writing, and idea generation. Photographers and image makers may work in B&W or color, digital or in film, the goal is to work, make pictures and dig deep.
